one Bf 109 G-3 mit "Fritz Jekes" on eBay

Good morning Gents,

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Messerschmitt...item2c6a1d0dbf

Seller is right to put a question mark after the name since the pilot seems to be Friedrich "Fritz" Ickes who died on 25/8/1944 when in 11./JG 1.
That picture taken in 1944? Why not.

Interesting to note that the canopy enlargement points clearly for a G-3 which was in use in both JG 1 and JG 11.

Regards, Franck.

Hallo Franck,

is it a G-3, indeed?
I don´t recognize the special headarmour designed for the pressurized G versions.

As Roland points out, there is nothing in the photo that indicates it's a pressurized variant

Hi guys,

There is no desiccant on non sliding window?

By the way; I'm still waiting a clear picture and/or drawing of that special head armour for pressurized G version; since four years I'm wandering about in these forums. And I have received a lot, believe me :).
And
- no vent on fuselage side? OK but there is no desiccant ...
- There is desiccant! OK but there is an air scope in front of the cockpit ...
- No vent, no scope, diseccant! OK, but there is no special headarmour stuff.

Why not? I can accept all, but not contradictory assesments from one thread to another one.
Just show me a true one...

Thank you.

Regards, Franck.

The best source for me at the very moment is

Harald-Helmut Vogt: Messerschmitt Bf 109 Einsatzmaschinen - Das Nachschlagewerk
http://www.amazon.de/Messerschmitt-B.../dp/B007RKQ492

There´s an excellent chapter about the pressurized G-variants with drawings, photographs etc. The head armour, in fact, is a vertical plate of steel closing the backpart of the moving hood including two triangular glazed cutouts to provide rear view for the pilot. The lower end of the steel plate seals the pilot´s compartment from the not-pressurized rear compartment of the cockpit.

Unfortunately I dont have the book here with me but hte armour feature is so characteristic it can be recognized on several photos.
Of course, desiccant tablets and the missing "Kiemenspalten" vents at the fuselage sides are an important feature, too.
Concerning the "Kiemenspalten" on not-pressurized variants I´m not quite sure but I think they´re only placed at the port side of the cockpit?

Regards

Roland

Unless my eyes deceive me, there is no desiccant in neither lateral windscreen panel (there is a bright flash from the UV lamp holder thought), nor rear sliding or non-sliding window (only the circular holder for sliding the panel).

Here's a picture showing the head armour pretty well...

http://www.me109.info/display.php?a=e&l=en&fid=3539

As you can see it's aligned with the rear frame of the canopy and has two small "windows" for a slightly improved rearview.

Cheers! / Anders
