Did all bombers carry Pigeons? |
GCHQ 22 Nov 2012 - Pigeon takes secret message to the grave
It seems the references to Pigeons being used in the Services are back in the news again!
A dead Pigeon skeleton has turned up in a chimney with a canister attached, with a coded Signal inside, which currently nobody can crack! GCHQ today - "Please bear in mind though, as indicated in our press release: http://www.gchq.gov.uk/Press/Pages/Pigeon-takes-secret-message-to-the-grave.aspx that without access to the original cryptographic material, or context around the messages, we are not able to decode the message, this means that it is also virtually impossible to verify any suggested solutions." "Should you want to pursue your interest in this story, or the World War Two pigeon service, we recommend that you contact or visit Bletchley Park, where there is a Pigeons at War exhibition: http://www.bletchleypark.org.uk/content/visit/whattosee/pigions.rhtm http://www.bfbs.com/news/uk/gchq-can...ode-62081.html Perhaps Bletchley Park may know how frequent Pigeon use was? Re: RAF Carrier pigeon story
It reminds me of the story of a guy who tries a new kind of restaurant, sort of "Kentucky Fried Pigeon" proclaiming : arrival of fresh pigeons every day.
He orders one and a few minutes later calls for the waiter. - Don't your ad claim that all your pigeons are fresh? - Yes Sir. They are. - Well, look. Mine had a ring. - It happens sometimes, Sir. - I found out there was a message inside the ring. - Could be. Still it does not mean it is not fresh, Sir. - Really? Read the message : "Tomorow we attack at dawn - Maréchal Foch." Sorry for the OT! |
