Re: Photos 11-24-12
Guys
I have a problem with this photo of an 1./JG 26 Emil. The date is given as 20 November 1940 (possibly 21) but that make very little difference, since I cannot find it listed anywhere in my sources. http://www.ebay.de/itm/ws/eBayISAPI....m=400346272433 Anyone who has an idea which aircraft this is all about? Cheers Stig |
Re: Photos 11-24-12
Stig,
Given place is Laval, exactly between Rennes and Le Mans. There is another picture available. Nothing more for the moment. Note: If the place is right, I'm surprised the plane crashed at more than 350km south (SSW) of Audembert. We can suppose it was most probaly a transfert flight (To Brest? Then date is wrong) or something like that. Nothing available to chew around 20/11... Regards, Franck. |
Re: Photos 11-24-12
Hello.
What is known about this 1./JG 26 aircraft? Without having researched this unit I see that I have the StaKa of 1./JG 26 listed as missing at an unknown location on November 17th. Could it be his aircraft? Regards, Andreas B |
Re: Photos 11-24-12
Andreas,
Thanks very much for the comment. Oblt. Henrici (+) loss on 17/11 is clearly identified following Prien I./JG 26, JFV 4.I. page 296. What do we have here? A machine after a belly landing, engine being stopped before touch down. Bruch no more than 30%, for what we can see. A late canopy hood, including a head armour. A Bf109E-1 or E-8?. Date .. ? Laval or Le Val? In that case there are at least 769 answers around Audembert from which we can keep only 10%; left, say, 80 answers. Frankly with such low damage, if the pilot hasn't been wounded do we have a little chance left to find more? The second picture I talked about upper was sent to me by BertrandH. As you may know he is well on it since long time, and for the moment there is no answer. Erg./JG 26? Why Erg.JG 26? Better Erg.Staffel. Because - see previous post - Erg.Staffel left St. Omer in November (With no day given by Prien) to reach Cognac. That is the only solution to explain 1/ The date and 2/ The place - Laval - which is on normal way to reach Cognac from St. Omer. Regards, Franck. |
