Junkers W 34 mishap 13th September 1940
Dear all,
I hope someone is able to help my out with the next query: on 13th September 1940 a Junker W 34 (according to a local report 'W 38') made a forced landing in the Polder Wieringermeer in The Netherlands. The aircraft had turned over, but the 3 occupants were unhurt. I've frantically searched the Losses Returns of the operational Luftwaffe units in the hope to find the identity of this W 34, but to avail. It may have been a W 34 from one of the non-operational units, but I do not have these losses returns unfortunately. I hope someone has the identity of this W 34 on file, or would be willing to have a look in the losses returns of the non operational units to see if any accident or damaged aircraft has been mentioned on 13th September 1940. Thanks in advance for your effort, Hans Nauta |

Hi Hans
At the present I cannot identify the JuW34 in question. But I would like to add that the landing accident location was used as a emergency landing-ground by the Dutch from 1934 up to 1940 but the Germans were not interested in using this location as an airfield as such and was abandoned. It is possible that the pilot of the Ju34 knew this location and used it to make an emergency-landing. Regards Tom |

The only reported Ju-w34 that could cope with your one, is the CA+VD, making a forced-landing due to motor troubles, 4 people slightly wounded, no day no location given just Sept.1940

Hi Rémi,
Thank you very much for your reaction on this rather old post. I had already given up hope that anything would turn up. Perhaps this is the one I'm looking for, although a local report states that 3 occupents were unhurt. Does your source give a unit? Regards, Hans |
Re: Junkers W 34 mishap 13th September 1940
Hi Remi/Hans
The crash of the JuW34hau you mention cannot be CA+VD as I have this as W/Nr 825 crashed on 27-09-40 with FFS(See)3, no location or damage. But I also have WA+SD as W/Nr 852 with FFS(A/B)118 crashed on same date near Frankfurt-Oder with 60% damage. Regards Tom |
Re: Junkers W 34 mishap 13th September 1940
Hans, Data are coming from the monthly list compiled by some med. service of the RLM, concerning all /?/ the accidents between 1936 nd 1942 , it list plane -type , "Kennung", casualties nb. nd degree of damage , nd ...month, where it occured, nothing more
In this list CA+VD is the only one who could cope with your accident Tom, probably Wn are the sames 825 right ?? From where the data for FFS-See 3 are coming ?? Rémi |
