JG 27 losses
Can anyone provide details on the supposed losses of an Oblt Zahn (6./JG 27?) and an Uffz Augst on or about the 19 October 1942? Zahn was apparently killed while Augst was supposedly rescued on the 19th. Any information would be most appreciated.

Re: JG 27 losses
Oblt Gunther Zahn of 6./JG 27 was killed on 21 July 1942 in a forced landing in the desert 50 km SE of Bir-el-Abd. His speed was too great when he hit the ground and his Bf 109 F-4/Trop WNr 8370 was totally destroyed.
No trace of an Uffz Augst in my files. |

Re: JG 27 losses
Thank you both for the information. I don't suppose you know which Allied units were involved by any chance?

Re: JG 27 losses
Hi,
Oblt Gunther Zahn of 6./JG 27 was probably the victim of P/O Barker of 145 Sq. who claimed a 109 which spun very low and crashed ( Fighters Over The Desert) Uffz Augst, Johann of III/JG.53 shot down for the second time in seven days, crashed into sea and rescued ( Fighters Over The Desert - name mis-spelled as Angst!) - no claimant noted Happy New Year Bruce Lander |

Hey Adam,
Unteroffizier Hans Augst took off from Qatifaya at 11:35 in Bf 109 '10 + ', and was shot down in combat with Spitfire and Curtiss fighters at 11:50. He bailed out, and his injuries prevented him from flying again until 16 February 1943. Source: Augst, Logbook Cheers, Andrew A. Air War Publications - www.facebook.com/airwarpublications |
