F/O Bruce Innes CLIFFORD-JONES 9 Squadron
Hi guys
F/O Bruce Clifford-Jones was a pilot with 9 Squadron and was killed in a flying accident on 8/9/39, one of the early casualties. He was second pilot aboard Wellington L4320 - details unknown. He was actually a Maori. How did this fit in with the RAF's colour bar? He had obviously joined the RAF before the colour bar was lifted. Interesting! Cheers Brian Happy New Year to one and all |
Re: F/O Bruce Innes CLIFFORD-JONES 9 Squadron
Hello Brian
You might have seen this already and he may / may not be connected? On the 1.9.1939 the No.215 Squadron Honington ORB had posted 5 A/G to No. 9 Squadron at Honington. On the 10th September 1939 No.215 Sqn moved to Nuneaton, Bramcote (after receiving orders on the 9th). William Charles Hilsdon was with 215 Squadron and died on 8 September 1939 per CWGC. A book online suggests a Hilsdon was connected to the same crash involving Clifford-Jones, although Hilsdon's death was recorded in a different Registration District at Witney? No mention of W. C. Hilsdon in the 215 Sqn ORB. Mark |
