II./JG 302 on 20 December 1943
Hello,
I would like to know if II./JG 302 engaged both the 8th Air Force raid on Bremen and the evening raid by RAF on Frankfurt on this date. I have three losses for this unit on this day (all during Feindflug flights), one near Bremen (Fw 190 A-5 WNr 410205 damaged at 35%) and one near Husum (Fw 190 A-5 160079, Fw Josef Leiner killed), in the area of the 8th Air Force raid, and one near Bad Bruckenau, near Schweinfurt, close to the RAF raid area (Uffz Leonhard Palzkill bailed out wounded from Fw 190 A-6 WNr 530307), and I would like to be able to link them to the good raid. Two of these losses are listed "nach Luftkampf", while Leiner is just shown as being killed in a crash, with no other cause given. So he might have been killed in a crash while flying to engage any of these raids, or returning from such action. Thanks in advance Laurent |

Hi Laurent,
Fw. Leiner was killed on a Trainingsflight. Regards Rüdiger Prien Teil 10/ II |
Re: II./JG 302 on 20 December 1943
Hi,
according to Reschke's "JG301/302" book, parts of this JG's were in action only against the RAF raid on Mannheim and Frankfurt. No sortie against the US-bombers mentioned. |

410205 was shot down on 2 October, 1943. On 20 December 1943 I have for 5./JG 302 (I/JG 11) FW 190 A-6, 551109 "Bauchlandung bei Bremen infolge Motorstörung. Bruch 35 %."
In NVM both Leiner and Palzkill are reported in "Feindflug". Matti |
