Luftwaffe losses over Schweinfurt on
Could somebody give me the number of Luftwaffe aircraft lost during 8 USAAF Schweinfurt mission on 17 Aug. 1943 ?
The source of this information would be also appreciated. Does the latest book by Caldwell "Day fighters in defence of the Reich. A war diary 1942-1945" gives any details on that? Regards, Greg |

It's a good idea to use the forum search facility. Sources for the information you seek were given in this recent thread: http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showth...ht=Schweinfurt

Re: Luftwaffe losses over Schweinfurt on
Middlebrook's book is very good and will provide all the info you need! I had the pleasure about 6 years ago to have lunch with a 91st B.G. pilot (William H. Wheeler) who was shot down on the way to the target spending the remainder of the war in Stalag Luft III. He went into great detail explaining to me the head on attacks which finally did him in! He actually wrote two books on his experiences with the Ragged Irregulars. . .great reading!!
