JG 26 bunch of pilots
On this photograph that can be found on the Flickr page of ww2images.com, you can see Galland (back to the camera) and on his right Mietusch and Müncheberg.
Can anyone ID the other pilots, in particular the one on the left who dances this hand jive with Galland? Thanks in advance. Chris |
Re: JG 26 bunch of pilots
Sprick 5 from right. Schöpfel (?) hand jiving. Bürchgens 4 from left. Possibly Muller-Duhe next to him?

Re: JG 26 bunch of pilots
This photo is from Josef Bürschgens' collection, which he let me copy many years ago. I don't know where ww2 images got their copy; it looks pretty muddy. I published it in JG 26: Top Guns of the Luftwaffe, where I identified all of the men but one. All are from III./JG 26 on Caffiers in early August 1940. From left: Hptm. Schöpfel, Oblt. Beyer, Lt. Müller-Dühe, Lt. Bürschgens, Lt. Christennecke (in life jacket), Maj. Galland, Lt. Sprick, Lt. Müncheberg, unknown, Hptm. Dr. Schroedter. Another photo of this scene is in JG 26: Photographic History of the Luftwaffe's Top Guns. Coincidentally, I loaned Brian Silcox this latter one to use in a magazine article featuring many of Dr. Schroedter's outstanding color transparencies. The magazine is now out, and I can recommend it: Axis Fighters, a Collector's Edition from Flight Journal. In return, Brian has promised to review my Day Fighters in Defence of the Reich in a web venue, probably a modeler's site. I'll pass on the URL when I get it.
Horrido! Don |
