Air Raids in Adriatic Sea, september 1943
Hello,
I’m looking for the details (units involved, types of aircraft, planes shotdown and/or damaged) of some attacks by Luftwaffe against Italian ships, in Adriatic Sea, after the surrender of September 1943. In particular: • The torpedo-boat T8 sank off Ragusa (Dubrovnik) on Sept., 11th, 1943: at 3:58 pm she was attacked by 9 stukas and hit three times. She sank at 4:03 pm (28 KIA) • The torpedo-boat Sirtori was hit off Corfu on sept., 13th, 1943 at 9:10 and was immobilized: she was hit again on 18th and was scuttled by her crew on 25th. • The torpedo-boat Stocco was subjected, between 16:20 and 17:15 of sept., 24th, 1943, off the western shores of Corfu, to several air attacks: the last one was performed by estimated 12 Stukas : the crew was almost totally lost, also for the strafing of the castaways and for the bad sea conditions. The ship sank around 19:20 of 24th • On sept., 24th , 1943, a convoy of steamers evacuating Italian soldiers from Split, was raided several times by German aircraft, which damaged “Ivo Matković” (stranded on Biševo island ). The escort ships were the torpedo-boat Aretusa and the corvette Chimera. • The torpedo-boat Cosenz, during an escort mission to some merchant ships evacuating Italian troops from Balkans, collided with the steamer Ulisse off Pelagosa, on sept., 25th, 1943: she was raided several times and was scuttled on sept., 27th, 1943 Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance Fabrizio |
