Re: Ju88S-1 - KG66
On the Allied side, there were only two claims this day: Capt N E Olsen of 357th FS, 353rd FG claimed a Me 210 shot down at around 1140 hrs in Amiens area, and two Mustang pilots of 2 Sqn RAF, Flt Lt Maitland and Flg Off Cooper, claimed a Bf 109 shared at 1418 hrs 10 miles SW Douai.
So this Ju 88 was very probably shot down by Olsen. |
Re: Ju88S-1 - KG66
Uffz Hermann Bunnermann and crew were killed in the crash of Ju88S-1 140600 on the 22-12-1943 north of St. Dizier while on a training flight. Oblt Rolf Reimers and crew were injured on the 11-8-1944 when Ju88S-3 330690 crashed on landing on return at Montdidier.

Re: Ju88S-1 - KG66
Thank you Matti and brian, merci Laurent for these details. Two engines BMW801 were found in a field 10miles south of Montdidier and it is perhaps this plane... Strangely I can not find the Uffz. Karl Schneider in the German military cemeteries. Do you know if Mr. Heijkop published his book on the KG66?

Re: Ju88S-1 - KG66
Hi AbbevilleBoy,
Thanks for you vote of confidence in my project! As Nick said, I'm still working on it, but the mean reason for that is that so much new and exciting material is still pouring in faster than I can process it ..:) As the others have been so helpful, the only things that I can add to this loss is that Tittel at the time of the crash was helping to introduce the EGON system in I./KG66. Tittel also told me that he was shot down by 2 P-47s. So far I have not been able to check this statement against Allied victory claims. If there are any pictures of the BMW801 engines in that field, I would be very grateful if you could send me some. So far I have very few pictures of I./KG66 wreck parts or crash sites. You can send me a PM if you like. Best regards, Marcel |

Tool for comparing GMT and CET in WW2?
Thanks Ota!
Great piece of history, very useful! So, der "alte Fritz" was right after all with his P-47s! RIP Friedrich Wilhelm Tittel.. BTW: Some time ago, a member of this board (John Manrho?) had a tool for comparing the Allied Greenwich Mean Time with the German Central European Time. (Something to do with different Summer Times IIRC) Can somebody point me in the right direction? TIA and best regards, Marcel |
All times are GMT +2. The time now is 19:27. |
