E-bay

This is just crazy,

someone made color version of this Bundesarchiv photo at home and now tries to sell it:

Hi.

Are You sure this is a fake?

There were a lot of color photographs taken on slides during WWII, by both standard personnel and the PK units.

The reason I say this is that I have access to another collection of color slides made by a doctor that for a part of his wartime career was in a Luftwaffe unit stationed in Norway, and he had a lot of color slides in his photo collection (must have taken between 5 and 10 full films). (Of course he did not have ONE photo of an aircraft, but seems to have been very interested in norwegian timber buildings.... and waterfalls... the fool ;) )

So before You accuse someone for trying to make a deliberate attempt of fraud, be extremely sure that this is the case.

I also know from a collectors inventory I have been allowed to see (but sadly not scan...) that several of the very well known and published photographs of especially high scoring aces and their aircraft are in fact in color as well as in black and white. It seems the PK guys that took these photos operated in both formats.

When I last visited the Bundesarchiv in Koblenz and asked for color originals, they stated they had none, which I find peculiar, as the Signal people at least took photographs in color. Probably gone.... ashes to ashes dust to dust and so on...

Regards,
Andreas

I confirm !!!

Hello Jan and Andreas.

I can confirm that What said Jan (Hello!! and heinz Baer ?!?), this photo doesn't exist in color, and I have 3 samples of this photo, one from Bundesarchiv, one from Mr Barbas (via Milan Krajci) and the third (a original one) from a source that I can't speak for now.

it's a fake because the wingtips are really yellow as the bottom of the cowling, but not the same yellow that the nine (probably RLM 04 & 27) confirmed by Mr Jan Reznak himself who piloted this G-4 Werk n° 19347and got at minimum 7 victories with this plane.

In his memoirs Pokryshkin speak about a Flight of 3 109 in his unit ( defection of 3 Slovak pilots) and among them this Yellow 9. If the russians put the red star on these planes they didn't overpainted the wingtips to put the trouble to the Germans.

Best regards.

Hallo Many,

thanks for your support.
BTW: the optimistic guy who did color version of this b/w photo forgot to make Slovak national colors on the spinner.

Concerning the Bär - work is going well on weekends. I am thinking about making English webpage about my work in progress on the Bär book.

regards

Jan

This seller is well known for his additional coloured black/white photos.
The quality is really bad as you can see if you own one of this fakes.
Also he copies lots of old offical photos and reproduction photos for his
own ebay business. Please be careful, he uses different ebay user names.

I will not comment on if its a fake or not, and i have never bought anything from this seller. But 99,7% of his customers are most satisfied with him.

Re: E-bay

Hi, guys.

I didn't analyze the photograph as such, and I do not know this aircraft especially.

Too bad if the case is that he or his japanese collector friend has photoshopped the photo....

But as I said, they did this also during the war (hand colouration) as well as taking colour photographs on slides.

Ask the seller, he should be able to give You a better answer!!

Regards,
Andreas

He'd make a good partner for this ratbag who incidentally is very aggressive verbally when asked about the Battle Of Britain Combat Reports that he has been selling on eBay.

Re: E-bay

Gentlemen,

How does name calling and accusations further a proper conclusion to any discussion? If there are those who are certain that a photo is fake, then contact eBay and report this seller.

I also suspect that some here think that every potential buyer has the same amount of knowledge that they do. This is a bad assumption. I know of individuals who have been defrauded. This is common with all collectible items.

Crazy? It is called greed. A person selling forgeries is counting on 1) not being reported, 2) taking advantage of the trust of potential buyers, and 3) buyers who have not done any research and/or lack sufficient knowledge to determine if something is a fake.
