Ordering from NARA
 

Hi, guys.

Are the NARA known to be slow to respond? Ordered some microfilms from them 8 weeks ago, no response yet....

I ordered two files from them way back in mid-July and only got them middle of last week. (Though you have to allow time for postage as I'm in Australia).

I was getting a bit peeved by the end of it all. I tried emailing and even calling to find out what the go was but ran into nothing but uselessness at every turn....

My impression is to that it takes time, so when the films at last show up they're a nice surprise!

I have mixed experiences with NARA.
Earlyear they were pretty fast with MACRs and stuff..within 2 weeks.
But lately I ordered few documents, MACRs of misches etc...and they did not proceed my request, but forwarded me to PRIVATE researchers, to who you have to pay extra for the search etc....:( that was very dissapinting...although my request clearly stated what I want, where it shold be located etc...
Probably it is about "keep trying"...

Last time I've ordered some NARA microfilms through 'Primary Source Microfilm/Thomson Gale'.

After several weeks have passed and I inquired about delivery, here's the answer I received:

"You order has been entered, however NARA film does take 10 - 12 weeks to ship."

Eventually, I received the microfilms about 8 weeks after the order has been placed.

Please note that they have a serious back log, since many people (including myself) placed their orders just prior the hefty price increase, in effect from Oct. 1.
