Frank-Werner Rott (JG53,77) career up to 1941

His claim #1 - 06.11.39 in JG53, claim #2 - 25.06.41 in JG77. In which unit did he serve in 1940?

Best regards
Dmitry

Re: Frank-Werner Rott (JG53,77) career up to 1941

Hi DiMtry,

Rott arrived in the middle of april 1940 at II./JG 77 which at the time was operating in Norway. He arrived there together with Reinhard Heydrich (the later in the war feared Obergruppefuehrer der SS). As Heydrich was to say 'to old' to be a 'fighter pilot', Rott was ordered to take care of him during combat flight.
They both came from Jagdfliegerschule Werneuchen, were Rott was a Staffelkapitaen.

He scored his 2nd victory with wthis unit on 15.04.40 when he shot down a Hudson over the Norwegian coast.

3rd victory over a Blenheim west of Stavanger.

At the start of operation Barbarossa he was still with II./JG 77 now as a Oblt.
On 25.06.1940 he scored his 4th victory over a DB-3.

This is what I found in the history of JG 77 written by Dr. Jochen Prien.

Hope this helps.

Dirk
