New US Journal on Airpower

Coming this summer -- have not heard details about the content but it certainly has an exceptional cast on the masthead.

Dear David,

I've clicked through the site's options and the subject matter seems of a rather academic and think tank nature, as opposed to anything pertinent to the general interests of the TOCH! membership, despite the advisory board membership. Just my take on it.

Regards,
Richard

Re: New US Journal on Airpower

David,

It sounds like another military journal that covers land and air operations from a "let's look at the past so that we can help (A) new people coming into leadership positions get real-world examples of how specific actions in the past, and the decisions involved, affected outcomes, and (B) provide information and ideas for integrating new technologies into air warfare."

My example is Military Review, which was (is still ?) published by the US Army Command and General Staff College. An example of the time range and subject matter:

The British Hostage Rescue in Ethiopia: 1867-68

Attack Helicopter Operations in the AirLand Battle: Close Operations

Operational Art on the Eastern Front

I guess we'll have to wait and see. By the way, I found Military Review a bit dry, and am aware of it only through a friend.

I also think that airpower has never been neglected, and the UAVs and UCAVs currently in use and development, clearly show that integration and planning are moving along, but there are no exciting stories to tell about unmanned aircraft helping to take out enemy defenses ahead of manned fighter-bombers and/or large bomber forces. We are living in the era of "low-intensity conflicts."

Best,
Ed
