In May 19, 1941, when they crashed near Irland, the copilot was Ofw Otto Kroke.

Thanks for your help Matti . I recently picked up some original photos of Hans Bucholz and his crew .One of the photos carried "Oberleutnant Bucholz mit Besatzung 1941" on the back but another one of the photos showed a crew member getting out of a Fw 200 and it was captioned "2. Flugzeug fuhrer von der Besatzung Oblt.Bucholz . This photo could possibly show Ofw. Otto Kroke ?

Yes , you are right Frans A , sorry it was a mistake by me and I should have seen the correct spelling on the back of the photos too as it is " Buchholz " .

Hi Alessandro , thanks for your help and names of Hans Buchholz's crew on the day they crashed off the Irish coast . I believe most of the crew survived the crash landing , a pity Hans did not.

Buchholz and Schmidt were the 2 who died when F8+DH/0060 was shot down by a single 12-pdr shell fired by the SS Umgeni 300 miles west of Donegal Bay at 0715 hrs. The trouble is was Kroke the regular 2nd pilot-does the photo show a rank?

Re: Oblt. Hans Bucholz KG 40

Were the bodies of Buchholz and Schmidt ever recovered ? Chris , when I get the chance I will the photo to see if the crew member carries any rank on his flight suit . After the Fw200 was hit by AA fire I assume it belly landed on the sea rather than crashing into the sea as there were survivors .
