One Hurricane for Larry
Hello,
Long time ago, I promised a picture for Larry Hickey. Hopefully I found it back. It shows an anonymous Hurricane, said crash-landed near Genappe (30 km South of Brussels). Perhaps this picture came through ebay and someone had already seen it (if not identified). The closest match should be Hurricane N2426 crash-landed by Sgt Cartwright (79 Sqn) on the 16/05/40 at Rêves (5 km S of Genappe). The wreckage was carefully dismantled and kept in a barn four years before Germans took it away in... August '44. Only the valves cover survives up today. Perhaps nothing interesting but anecdote worths it Best regards ClinA-78 |
Re: One Hurricane for Larry
This is a very well know picture, often found in albums from 3. Pz Division. These come with printed caption: near Wavre, not Gemappe.

Re: One Hurricane for Larry
OK, the location given to me seems uncorrect.
The anecdote about Rêves's Hurricane is really true. ClinA-78 |
