Date Werner Machold became Sta Kap of 7./JG2

Hello,

As far as I know, the actual date that Obfw Werner Machold was promoted to Oblt and took over as StaKap of 7./JG2 has never been precisely established. It had to be after he achieved his 26th victory with 9./JG2 on 30 Sept. 1940. Has anyone ever determined precisely when he moved to 7 Staffel? It appears to have been sometime after 30.09.40 and around 01.41, but as far as I know when exactly this happened has never been determined.

The Luft Off Career Summary does not have an accurate date for this.

Who can help?

Found only " at the beginning of the next year (1941) ", ( caption of the pic of Machold's white 1 - p 247 in French copy of " dans le ciel de France, vol 1 :1934-1940 ", by Mombeeck, Roba and Goss.

I have him replacing Hptm Armin Ettling (who had replaced Hptm Erich Gerlitz) but not until the New Year

Hello Thierry, Chris and Kaczmarek,

Thanx for your comments. It is clear from photography of his 7./JG2 a/c that it was dead winter of 40-41 from photos showing trees in the background with no leaves. However, still no specific date for his asssuming command of 7./JG2, which seems strange for such an important "ace" of the time.

Based upon everything that I know, we might not have to do a color profile of his a/c from that Staffel for the RKT Color Profile part of the project, but I'm inclined to do so anyway since it was apparently close to the beginning of 1941 when he took command. I'd certainly appreciate comments from anyone else who might be able to help clear up this small mystery.
