abbreviations meaning loss Luftwaffe accounts

I'm having a bit of difficulty in deciphering some of the abbreviations listed in the Luftwaffe loss accounts listed here http://www.rafandluftwaffe.info/lists/luftwaffe3.htm

I wonder if I can ask the experts here, I'm interested in the entry for 18th May 1943 Karl-Heinz Brandes

Which abrevations ?

By the way here is what I have on this loss:

On 18 May 1943 the Ju 88 C-6 WNr 360301 D5+HW of 11./NJG 3 crashed in the afternoon at Nissum Nørre Eng due to pilot error during a training flight. The aircraft burst into flames and was a 100% loss.

The crew of Pilot Oberleutnant Karl-Heinz Brandes, Wop Unteroffizier Hugo Corfu and Engineer Leutnant Kurt Klose died and when retrieved from the burned out wreck they were brought to Fliegerhorst Grove. On 22 May they were all laid to rest in Lemvig cemetery with a German chaplain officiating at the graveside ceremony.

Re: abbreviations meaning loss Luftwaffe accounts

Thank you so much for the extra information Laurent, some of the abbreviations across the top of the form Sdet, Wnr, Vknz, R.det, Ploss and in the listing 2D, 0360 301, DS+HW and 3-0-0-0

I have been researching the loss of my cousins plane on the night of 24/25th September it is pretty conclusive that his Lancaster R5679 was shot down by Brandes at 01.22hrs on the same night at 02.13hrs he also intercepted R5724 which crash landed in the UK I have detailed eye witness accounts of the events. On 25th of May there will be a ceremony to mark the crash. I have been trying to obtain a photograph of Brandes but to no avail.

Many thanks for your help

..... why do you not ask the creator of the list for such information ??

As you see, it is an old list who later has been upgrated several times.

Greetings from Norway

Re: abbreviations meaning loss Luftwaffe accounts

Wnr (werk nummer) - think of it as a factory serial number that would identify aircraft type, for example an Bf 109 E1 or E3 and the company that manufactured it.

Vknz - would be an operational code. The first two letter/number combinations would identify the aircraft Geschwader, the third letter the individual aircraft and the last letter (color coded) the squadron and group within the Geschwader.

That is a pretty basic explanation.
