Jan Mayen
Two German planes crashed there during WWII. One was well ID as
a Focke Wulf 200C4 Condor serial#0104 SQ F8 +AB of staff 1KG40. The second was found much later by a British geological team on the SW end of the island. My question what kind of plane was it, was it ID, how many lost and when did it go missing? |
Jan Mayern Island
Hi Carl!
Hope that I can be of help here. Check out www.warcovers.dk, has to do with German Meteorological Units during WWII. According this website, Ju 88D-1, 1B+BH, Wekusta 5, Pilot Oberleutnant Werner Kohler, crashed on Jan Mayern Island on 15.7.42. Entire crew killed. Picture of the aircraft remains, in color, shown on the website. Best regards, markr |
Thank you Markr. I was surpised to note how close that crash had occured to that of the Condor on the 15th of the preceding month. I got a first hand account on the Condor but they never knew of the Ju 88.
