Loss of III./ KG 4 aircraft on 24/6 1941
On 24/6 1941 III./ KG 4 lost He 111 werk nummer 3916 over the North Sea. Can anyone tell me what its target was and if possibly who clamed it.

Soren: Irritatingly, the target is not recorded neither if it was 23-24 Jun or 24-25 Jun 41. 3 other losses on 24 Jun were recorded as Thames, Chatham and Liverpool and there were night fighter claims by 29 Sqn (prob), 85 Sqn (1 dest, 1 prob) on 23-24 Jun; 96 (dam), 255 (dest) and 25 Sqns (dest)

Re: Loss of III./ KG 4 aircraft on 24/6 1941
Karl Gundelachs book on KG 4 page 117 gives that on 24/25.6.41 the IIIrd Gruppes mission was 'Mining to the Mersey'.
The attack cost the crews of Oblt. Schwarz (He111 5J+CD w/n 3869 with Schwarz killed and the other three POW's) and the crew of Fw. Rohde missing, Regards Brian |

Just a quick one. You say WNr 3869 was lost. The Blitz, now and then vol 3 says the WNr was 3839. Who had the finger trouble? You or them?? Cheers Stig |
Re: Loss of III./ KG 4 aircraft on 24/6 1941
Hi Stig,
I have 3869 which would have been copied from reports at the Public Record Office that I made several years ago. I would think if The Blitz authors used the Luftwaffe Verlustlisten ,short of a printing error, they are probaly correct.Sorry for any confusion, Regards Brian |
