Bf110C-4 W.Nr3097 ZG26 1940
 

Good afternoon, could anybody help with a possible loss for this a/c.
Im certain ive seen recently, a photograph showing the rear of this aircraft on Ebay clearly displaying the unit code 3U+A* with the
W.Nr 3097 in white at the rear of the fuselage.
This a/c also sports 4 kills on the rudder.
I missed the opportunity to capture this image so if anybody can help with the likely user of this a/c i would be most grateful.
Would it be Rossiwall's 3U+AN 5/ZG26 during the French Campaign?

Steve,

There is a BA photo of Maj Johann Schalk, GrKdr of III./ZG26 standing with two other pilots. In the background is a Bf110C with the codes 3U+A? visible, and the last two digits of the W.Nr. ??97 visible on the rear fuselage. There are four white victory tabs on the upper fin.

This may not be Rossiwall's a/c, but could also be that of Schalk, 3U+AD. If anyone has another film frame from this sequence confirming that this is 3U+AD, and the full W.Nr., including possibly 3097, I would also appreciate knowing about it. We are doing a Color Profile series on Schalk, and I need to document the full markings on this a/c, regardless of who it belonged to. Rossiwall is thought to have usually flown W.Nr. 3044.

Larry thanks to you also for your reply, i guess this could well be Schalk's a/c. Do you have a victory list for him to date the 4 kills?

Im quite sure there must be other stills of this scene showing Schalk and his colleagues with W.Nr3097 in the background. Lets hope they can be found!

Matti, in my files i have a loss given as Bf 110 3U+MW no WNr or a/c sub type listed, lost 10.41 " Hit water during shooting and ditched"
Curiously, the unit is given as 12/ZG76, 2x crew safe. I wonder if this is the incident above. ( source Bf110 At War by Armand Van Ishoven pg81. )
Any further thoughts?

My info is from line item 47 of GQM report dated 17.10.1941. I don't have any loss of 12./ZG 76. In fact, as far as I know, there never was Gruppe IV/ZG 76. Also code 3U+MW belongs to 12./ZG 26.
My educated guess is, that this is "my " incident.
