Gluchose-See ?
All
Does anyone know the location of this lake, most likely the German name for a Northern Russian lake? TIA Dave |

forum in www. Maybe it is a wrong name, I've never heard something about it. The info was "27.08.41 9/KG3 Gluchose-See Bruchlandung. Do17Z W.Nr2870 100%". Maybe someone can look for this Do 17 and we have the answer. It would be better to ask for this Do 17 with WN 2870. |

Yes indeed that is the loss I am looking to find the location for.....as you suggest perhaps a different approach is needed and another thread. regards Dave |
Re: Gluchose-See ?
Obviously, Gluchose should be Gluchoje.
There are a number of lakes with such name in north-western Russia. 1. In Gatschina (Krasnogwardejsk) area, Leningrad region. 2. In Pljussa area, Pskov area 3. Near Valdaj Although, such name seems to be rather common for the lake. Gluchoje means "desolate", "remote", "god-forsaken", "dead" etc. |
Re: Gluchose-See ?
Andrey, "gluchoje" in Russian must be also an endorheic lake, i.e. there is no natural outflow (Глухое озеро, в которое вливаются притоки, а истоков нет.), isn't it? There is a "Gluchoje" lake not far from Ekaterinburg too.

Re: Gluchose-See ?
Thanks gentlemen.....maybe this narrows it down a little anyway...rather than ...'ditched in a big lake'!

Yes, sure. >There is a "Gluchoje" lake not far from Ekaterinburg too. Sure, that was not the case. Urals is too far! ;) Personally I think that it could be near Plyussa, on the way back to Pskov-Dno airfields. As far as AFAIR III./KG 3 switched from actions on Novgorod direction (in support of 39 PzK) to Leningrad area in the end of August. But as far as "Glichoye" is too common, we can't be sure without any additional info. Look at: http://mapo35.narod.ru/map2/index12.html There are ANOTHER two Gluchoye lakes on the same map there (see quadrant 28/68 for one of them for ex). |
