Dakota KG653, 24 Sep 44 The above became lost flying from Pershore to Elmas and was shot down by Hptm Julius Meimberg of II/JG 53 crashing at Nackterhof, Neuleiningen. The crew was Flt Lt R Korner, Plt Off L A Veary and Sgt G Beckoff but up to 20 passengers (all Canadians?) were killed. Can anyone confirm how many were killed and the Dakota's unit which I have noted as 1 Ferry Unit. I also have a note that the American serial was 41-14370? |
