Meimberg's kills

I am either getting old or confused! Jochen says he had 53 confirmed kills whilst other sources say 54, 56 or even 59. I can account for 53 but can anyone agree or disagree with me?

Chris - you are 59... in the Dr. Braatz Book are 59 too. 1. 4./JG 2 19 May 1940 a Hurricane and last II./JG 53 at the 13 March 1945 a French Spitfire.

Greetings from Germany

I remember seeing the gun camera picture in the Prien Unit History of that Spit-apparently Meimberg got a very concentrated pattern of cannon hits on it (at least that is what the still seemed to show) but the plane made it home.

Hi Chris

I found that Meimberg included unconfirmed claims in his total, some pilots did, and others did not.......I don't know why. But strangely for a Jg2 pilot he was a honest guy so fitted in with Jg53 well.

Johannes

Re: Meimberg's kills

Hi Chris

I would say forty-five confirmed, and unconfirmed on 19th June 1942 at 2058 hrs, 19th August 1942 x2, 25th November 1942, 3rd December 1942, 4th December 1942 x3, 27th May 1944, 23rd August 1942, 29th September 1944, 8th October 1944, 29th October 1944 and 18th November 1944. Those claimed in 1945 I have counted as confirmed, as they would almost certainly have been so, but were in fact not as there was no time to officially do so. So forty-Five confirmed, and fourteen unconfirmed!

Regards

Johannes
