FFS A/B - SchFAR - BFS

HI All

I have one question about pilot schools.
What was the training cycle, how many hours in FFS?
What is the difference FFS of SchFAR ?
Next training took place BFS continuation or rather there were held in specialized training?

Best Regards

Jarek

This is a very complex subject, far too complex to be answered in a few sentences. You would be best served by consulting or buying this 2-volume work which will answer all of your questions:

Carlsen, Sven and Michael Meyer. Die Flugzeugführer-Ausbildung der Deutschen Luftwaffe 1935-1945 [German Air Force Pilot Training 1935-1945]. Zweibrücken: VDM Heinz Nickel Verlag:
Band I: Von der Grundausbildung bis zur Blindflugschule [From Elementary Training to Instrument Flight School] (1998). ISBN: 3-925480-29-3. Hb (laminated cover). 496p. Profusely illus. (incl. color photos). Charts and tables.
Band II: Fliegerwaffenschulen und Ergänzungsgruppen [Aviation Combat Schools and Replacement Groups] (2000). ISBN: 3-925480-34-x. Hb (laminated cover). 576p. Profusely illus. (incl. color photos). Tables.

Hi
Thanks a lot Larry.
I'll be looking for these books, maybe I can get them.
I very interested in the unit, an interesting topic because they were at the airport Stargard - Klutzow researching the stories.
Not all the entire life of the airport, but BFS 2, 5, 8 to 1945.
Best Regards :)

Re: FFS A/B - SchFAR - BFS

Here is what I have on Stargard - hopefully, you have some additional information for me?

Stargard (GER/POL) (a.k.a. Stargard-Klützow, Stargard Szczecinski) (53 17 15 N – 14 59 25 E)
General: operational airfield (Einsatzhafen) in Pomerania 32.5 km ESE of Stettin (Szczecin), 7-8 km SSW of Stargard and 2 km SW of the village of Klützow.
History: built 1934-36 and inaugurated as a Lw. Fliegerhorstkommandantur by 1 October 1936. Served as a pre-war and wartime station for the formation and training of tactical reconnaissance units, and as a school for elementary and instrument flight training. Used by operational units during the Sep 39 attack on Poland and again during the last few months of the war.
Dimensions: approx. 1100 x 1190 meters (1200 x 1300 yards) and roughly circular in shape.
Surface and Runways: grass surface. Had one prepared strip measuring 1550 meters (1700 yards) aligned NW/SE. A perimeter road encircled the landing area. Equipped with boundary and obstruction lighting, flare path, beam approach system and a visual Lorenz system for night landings.
Fuel and Ammunition: there were 2 groups of refueling points on the N side of the landing area and 2 more groups on the S side. A small ammunition store was on the W boundary and a large ammunition dump 5 km to the N.
Infrastructure: had 7 medium hangars and 1 very large repair hangar along the N and NE sides of the field, all of which were fronted with paved aprons. Separate workshop buildings were concealed in a woods adjacent to the hangars. The station motor pool and garages were off the NE corner near the repair hangar. The airfield HQ, admin buildings, barracks, messes, quarters, etc., were all in a group off the NE boundary. A branch rail line from Stargard served the hangar and building areas on the N and NE sides as well as the ammunition storage site on the W boundary.
Dispersal: aircraft were dispersed in a small grove of trees about 1 km off the SE corner and on the perimeter at the SW corner. There were a total of at least 5 small covered aircraft shelters in Oct 44.
Defenses: unknown.
Remarks:
6 Oct 44: airfield bombed by 199 B-17 Fortresses.
5 Mar 45: Stargard taken by Soviet forces.
Operational Units: Aufkl.Gr. 112 (Apr 36 – Sep 37); Stab, 1., 2./Aufkl.Gr. 12 (Oct 37 – Oct 38); Stab, 1., 2., 3./Aufkl.Gr. 21 (Nov 38 – Auf 39); 4.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 21 (Jan-Aug 39); 5.(H), Wekusta 1 Luftflotte 1 (Jun-Sep 39); 1.(F)/Aufkl.Gr. 121 (Aug-Sep 39); 3.(F)/Aufkl.Gr. 121 (Aug-Oct 39); 6.(H), 7.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 21 (Dec 40 – Apr 41); Luftdienst-Teilkdo. 1/3 (1939-40); Fliegerforstschutzverband (1942-43); II./JG 400 (Nov-Dec 44); IV./JG 3 (Jan-Feb 45).

Re: FFS A/B - SchFAR - BFS

Everything is correct, but ...
Airport Stargard-Klutzow rather did not participate in raids on Poland in September 1939, there is no confirmed data.
As for the runways were such: concrete 1550 m x40 m, 1600 mx 15 m, grass runway 3000 meters, grass runway technical-share runway length is not fixed.
Points of fuel and refueling points and including the ammunition to agree.
The airport was and has retained to this day a large range three axes plus two technical axes, compasses point adjustment.
What else is interesting .. to this day preserves the technical support for the Me 163 and a large hangar for Me 163. 06 Oct 44, raided the airport because of the Politz - Stettin were big fog.
Were damaged runways, factory Askaniya Werke stationary position rocket 2 x 2, and others.
One curiosity about the fog over the airport Stargard - Klutzow from two to three days per year!
4./JG3 does not operate from Stargard - Klutzow, built a new airport grassy 4 km. south-east of Stargard Klutzow.
It's generally what these airports are the topics are really interesting as you want it shipped to you in priv dump map of a particular item and description.

Re: FFS A/B - SchFAR - BFS

Thanks, Jarek! I have made the necessary corrections and additions.

When were the 2 concrete runways built? I am guessing maybe in 1943-44?

Also, I did not understand this sentence:

The second concrete runway and hangar for the Me 163, I think it was built in 1944.
....about my sentence, I'm sorry I wrote badly, if you want I can send you the priv map with the location of all runways and airport facilities.
Regards
Jarek

Thanks for the runway info, Jarek.

I will not need the map, but many thanks for the offer!
