Book error
Hi
According to "The bomber Command war diaries" by Martin Middelbrook and Chris Everitt, it states that on 13 August 1940, 29 Blenheims ( includin 12 from 82 sqn.) attacked airfields in Belgium and France, 16 bombed and 12 where lost ( includin 11 from 82 sqn.). But on this day 82 sqn. sent 12 Blenheims to bomb Aalborg West in Denmark, of which 1 turned back due to fuel problems, while the remaining 11 was lost over Denmark. Does anyone know if the rest of the Blenheims went to France and Belgium and what sqn. was involved, loses, etc. Nick |
Re: Book error
Poor old 82 Squadron was very much a 'hard luck' group.
During the Battle for France, it was also decimated. On 17 May 82 Sqn was briefed for a dawn raid on German armor near Gembloux. 12 Blenheims took off for the raid, only 1 returned. The rest were shot down by a combination of fighters and flak. |
Re: Book error
If I recall correctly, the surviving 82 Squadron crew from this raid did not last very long either.
