Lancaster JB 540

Hi all,
was wondering if anybody knew the type this Lancaster was. It was shot down on 25-Feb-44 and was assigned to 12 Sq.

Thanks,

Norbert

Yes, it was Lancaster B Mk III., built by A.V. Roe Chadderton in late 1941. It was one of planes in block of 550 planes which carried serials JA672 to JB 748.

Hi
Interesting in having a USAAF personnel in the crew.

Crew:

F/S W A Lampkin
Sgt K Allen
1Lt S W Penner USAAF
Sgt W L Alder RCAF
Sgt S T Wright
Sgt W E Allen
Sgt P F McCaughey RAAF

Cheers
Nick

Crashed near Michelau im Steigerwald. USAAF-airman was the navigator and it was not uncommon that USAAF-personnel of a Replacement Control Depot joined commonwealth crews.
Regards,
Henk.
