Re: Dankward Freiherr von Maltzahn

He was a younger brother of Guenther von Maltzahn, born on December 29,1917.He was killed flying for II/JG-27,killed in combat with B-17s.

Guenther von Maltzahn's family suffered greatly in WWII. The family clan was from Wodarg/Kreis-Demmin/Pommerania,which was controlled by the Red army after WWII. His father, Gerhard Freiherr von Maltzahn (b. June 25,1867) was killed by the Red Army on May 2,1945. Another two brothers were also killed in WWII:

(1) Hartwig von Maltzahn,Kriegsmarine, born Feb 14,1917,KIA Atlantic May17,1943

(2) Wolf-Wigand von Maltzahn , Luftwaffe, born March 13,1924, KIA on March 31,1945 while flight training,Obefhr.

Gunther von Maltzahn died in 1953 from cancer.
