Mosquito Exterior Surface Preparation?
Hi;
Was wondering if anyone had any details of Mosquito exterior surface preparation practices? Specifically, was the wood primed before painting (colors) and such things as that. I'm doing a "skin" for a Mosquito, looking for details on surface preparation, and what would be exposed by "weathering" and such.... Thanks! Paul |
Re: Mosquito Exterior Surface Preparation?
This is perhaps not a complete reply, but the wood was covered in fabric (mapolam?) and primed with the usual red fabric primer.

Hi Paul,
To expand on what Graham has posted the following is taken from the relevant Mosquito publication A.P.2019B: 132. Madapolam 3 coats red dope 2 coats aluminium dope Camouflage, or matt black (ii) Wings, tail plane and fin external Exactly the same as for the external surface of the fuselage Undercarriage wheel well 1 coat primer (red dope?) 1 coat hydraulic fluid resisting paint HTH Dave |
Re: Mosquito Exterior Surface Preparation?
Hi;thanks for your replies. It is very helpful in painting a "skin" to know what underlies the surface. I'll also ask then how the cockpit and nose area (interior) would have been prepared - "standard" grey-green primer, or other colors?Paul
