B-17 Crash Location
 

I am looking for B-17 that crashed in Germany on April 18th, 1945. The plane I am looking for crashed on April 18th, 1945. The crew bailed from the plane, and all the airmen survived the war. In addition, I know the following, plus I do have a copy of the MACR

- the pilot was taken prisoner upon hitting the ground near Augsburg by local citizens.
-the co-pilot was captured, and upon being liberated, was flown out of Germany from an airstrip in Ulm
-fighter escorts witness the crew bailing out near Crailsheim (nine of ten)
-The B-17's Aircraft Serial #43-38646

Has anyone heard or know of a crash in that area, this late in the war?

MACR 14175
MACR tells you crew names., target and last seen/known position of a/c.
NARA section on POW's will give POW Camps and other info on captured aircrew.
Another B-17 lost this date was -

Yes, I forgot to add in my first post that I knew the aircraft#, its' 43-38646. Thanks Alex for posting that info. I have checking at the NARA section on POW for the crew members of A/C #43-38646 Each entry for crew members is listed as "returned to Military Control" rather than any camp information.

I was wonder if anyone here knew more, based on any information gleaned from any German reports or knowledge.

One added questions, the last reported sighting of the plane was near Crailsheim by US fighters, was that the B-17's location or the location of the fighters.

The entries in the reports are most the last sighting of the aircraft. So it could be possible that the a/c flew still many miles to his final crashplace.
Except for it often did not know the exactly location where one was. "Near Crailsheim" this can be easily more miles.
These informations are to be looked therefore with some scepticism.
