Soviet pilot Valentin Dodonov shot down in China 1938

Hello,

The included picture is a well known one and now it seems that the pilot is identified as Valentin Dodonov, who flew I-16s as a volunteer over China between 22/01/38 and 03/08/38.
Is there anyone that can verify the identity and on which date he was shot down?

Best wishes/Håkan

Hi
It is indeed Dudonow. He fell in Japanese hands on July 18, 1938 following mid-air collision with Mitsubishi A5M4 flown by Kaigun Taii Nango Mochifumi, Hikotaicho of 15 Kokutai who was KIA. There are a lot of infos in net about Taii Nango and his death.
All the best.

By the way what happened to Dudonow after he was captured? Did he make it back to Soviet Union and did he participate in WW2?
