Death of Wt.Off. J. N. Philpott

According to a footnote in Brian Cull's Diver!Diver!Diver!, W/O John Norman Philpott (serv.no.658073) was KiA on 29 August 1944 in a Typhoon. No squadron is mentioned and neither does the CWGC website give a unit. Furthermore I cannot find any corresponding combat loss.

Can anyone provide the unit, serial number and loss details.

Thanks,
Tom

Hello,

Philpott was killed on 29th August, 1944, when Typhoon JR301 (of No. 3 Tactical Exercise Unit), suffered engine failure, and crashed North of Kewstoke, Somersetshire.

Thanks again, Col. I had never acquired the Typhoon and Tempest book since it was published so long ago, but this has changed my mind and I've ordered a copy as well as the DSO book which I was unaware even existed.

Cheers,
Tom
