Hurbertus von Bonin 3./J88 in 1938-39?
 

Can anyone tell me the exact number of aircraft that von Bonin claimed while in the Spanish Civil War. I found one site with 3 and another with 4.
So far I have the following:
29 Dec 1938 Rata
17 Jan 1939 Rata
06 Mar 1939 Rata

Can any of these be matched to an actual loss?

Here is what I have, mate:

29.12.38: 3a Esc and 7a Esc of Grupo 21 definitely in action. At least one I-16 lost this date, pilot named Diaz

17.1.39: Possibly from Grupo 21

3.2.39: Possibly from Grupo 26

6.3.39: 2a Esc, Grupo 26. Sgt. Agustin Maestro Romerales

Thanks again Nick. The 03 Feb 1939 claim was missing off the one site that I saw. I've looked at some of his claims for 1943 and they seem "right on the money". He would make double claims and use only one time if within a few minutes and the same location but confirmable.

Hi,

from Russian book on Air war in Spain:
29.12.1938
15.30 hrs: area of Granien-Kogul-Solieras (sorry but I`m translating that from Russian) the I-16 squadron had been attacked by 16 Bf109s 1 I-16 was shot down and pilot bailed out.
If I will have more time I will add more details.

Does your Russian language reference note the Bf-109E matricule used by von Bonin when he served as Staffelkapitan of 3.J/88 in Spain?

Hi Ken,

there are no information`s about aircraft markings. It only list all actions, kills and losses from Soviet/communist side.
