German wrecks on the banks of the Elbe river to identify
Hi,
I came across of two photos of german plane wrecks at the Elbe River in 1945. (Wartime collection of John Ward, 244 Engineers "B" Co. 3rd Platoon) http://www.twofortyforth.org/images/...0109's.jpg and http://www.twofortyforth.org/images/...be%20river.jpg I thought this could be of interest for someone. digedag1 |
Re: German wrecks on the banks of the Elbe river to identify
Hi,
FYI, the second one is the wreck of the only completed BV 238. The location was Lake Schaal, some +40kms ENE of Hamburg and +24kms NEN of Lauenburg on the River Elbe. |

And, given the deployments of the 244th Eng BN, from which this photos come from, these Bf 109s/Fw 190s might have been photographed at Hagenow or Schwerin. But that's just an educated guess..

Yes Christian,
I think there is one similar - if not the same - in Marc's pages. Need to check out. |

IIRC these same photos were discussed at length on LEMB several months ago.

Hello Gang,
Just as a post scriptum: it has been now possible to establish that the wrecked Bf 109's and Fw 190's were found at Bad Lippspringe. For a full portfolio of machines found at Bad Lippspringe, check here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/280920...57631650203888 Cheers Marc |
