KIA. a/c crashed following a dog fight with two E/A's about 600yds East of Berends Farm, Alte Picardie near Georgsdorf. (ref:Vol 3 of Losses of the 8th & 9th Air Forces). P38H-5-LO 42-66739 475th FG, 433rd FS MACR 2051 Date:16th January 1944. Pilot: Richard L. Hancock.KIA. 20m West of Alexishafen, on one engine and spun in. P-51's (1) 44-13652 361st FG 374FS Date:29th August 1944. Pilot: Harry G. Bosyk. Killed. A/c broke up in a training flight and crashed at Tower House Farm, Middleton, Norfolk. (2)44-13852 "LC-D" 20thFG, 77th FS. Date: 17th September 1944. Pilot: William F. Kuemmerle. Force-landed non op flight Pohay,SW of Paris. France. (3)44-14520 361FG, 376FS Date: August 5th 1945. Pilot: Curtis S. Harris, Killed. A take off accident in the UK. P-40E's 40-667 -Lost Java early 1942. 40-674 and 675 - Condemned August 31st 1943. But also reported as Lost in action Java early 1942. P-40's were part of 17th Pursuit Squadron (Provisional), shipped to Philippines, but convoy diverted to Australia.
Some 18 P-40's formed part of the PS. Stories here http://forum.armyairforces.com/m/tm.aspx?m=56355 and here http://www.adf-serials.com.au/research/Part3-P40.pdf Armyairforces speaks of some losses over Java, so 40-674 and 40-675 may be among them. 40-667 apparently written off after ground incident? you know the dates of these: date unknown P-38 unknown 14 FG 48FS Garris, Benjamin was shot down over Salerno, Italy on his 14th mission. Wounded in this action he bailed out date unknown P-38 unknown O-431143 14FG 49FS Moore, Gail E. Jr. KIA Plane apparently hit by flak dove into the ground and exploded date unknown P-38 unknown 14FG 49FS Knapp, Ralph L. S/d Rtn The aircraft were bombing Faid Pass in the mountains south of Tunis, Tunisia. He fired at the group of bombers, destroying one and catching the attention of the German ME-110 fighters escorting the bombers. One of the ME-110s hit his plane, forcing him to crash land in the desert. many thanks, regards |
