1-TVON ?
In Nov. 1938 an Italian probably 3-engined plane crashed in Austria.
On the Italian memory plaque for the 4 killed airmen it says: "1-TVON" (plane, model, serial ??). What does 1-TVON mean? Thx a lot for all of your suggestions. ginamod |
Re: 1-TVON ?
I think it starts with the letter "I" not the number "1". I-TVON was probably the aircraft registration code. The system started in 1928. Italy uses I-AAAA to I-ZZZZ.

Re: 1-TVON ?
Maybe I-TUON from Alla Littoria, a Savoia Marchetti SM-75C s/n 32017 but the info says it was destroyed December 1938. Maybe it was only SOC from register in December?
Got the info from the Golden Years of Aviation site. |

Re: 1-TVON ?
Hi, Friends,
great replies, thanks so much RSwank, Col and Sergio. Sumary: Evidently an I- not a 1 !! I learned much now about international aircraft registration. Evidently a Savoia Marchetti SM Plane. Will try to confirm it by looking for debris. Exactly that plane and event, mentioned under http://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/wiki.php?id=1069 Not the city of Linz (Upper Austria) is correct but LIENZ in Tyrol (hospital). Crash site close to Lienz in Winklern, Carinthia! Best Regards ginamodhttp://forum.12oclockhigh.net/images/icons/icon7.gif |

Re: 1-TVON ?
In old-roman manner all "U" letters have been written as "V" letters.
Typical for the Mussolini era... Regards Roland |
