A he115 lost in 1940 was recently discovered in lake limingen in mid norway.
The plane made a forced landing, probably due to technical problems, and was set afire by the crew. They were captured by norwegian troops, and spent the rest of the war as pows. After a few days, the plane sank through the ice. Although the main section was burned, large parts of wings and tail section has been located.

Nice news .. is the second He 115 in Norway!
Deep lies and probably in worse condition than the He 115 from Sola.

At least spare parts for the Sola He 115. Under normal conditions aluminum parts in sweet water are better preserved than in salt water.

This plane was a rare He 115B-2 equipped with optional ice runners under the floats, W.Nr. 2755 and marked S4+AH. It was collected on the island of Sylt by a crew from Kü.Fl.Staffel 1./106 and flown to Hommelvik at the Trondheimsfjord, where they arrived on 21. April 1940. Despite being marked for 1./506 it was used by the same crew on a recce sortie to Narvik the following day. The crew was Oblt.z.See Rudolf Schrader (pilot), Lt.z.See Siegfried Schulz (observer) and Uffz. Erich Günther (w/o). Flying at some 10.000 feet the began to experience engine problems and soon after one of the engines caught fire. Schrader decided to make a forced landing and came down on the still frozen lake Limingen in the northern part of Trondelag and close to the Swedish border. The ice proved to have a soft surface and in spite of the ice runners, the aircraft turned over. It caught fire and burned out more or less completely. The crewmembers escaped without injuries. They were eventually captured by some Norwegians and turned over to French troops in the area. The ended up as POW's in Scotland on 30. April 1940.

Interesting detail, thanks. Some discrepancies with the info the Norwegian Aviation Musuem has. They say the code is M2+AH and the aircraft was set alight by the crew.
Some very nice parts extant- engines, floats, struts all there and missing from the Sola example. The latter has has one engine, but the lake examples are in better condition of course.

It does not show any crash damage to fin in video, like Ju 88´s known turning over on landing at Jonsvannet, they had the fin crushed and fuselage broken. An engine fire in the air could still be blasing after landing.
I for one welcome there be approximate 1,5 He 115 surviving (+ others still in the Ocean) and do hope funds be found to raise it soonest possible, and use floats for repair of the Sola example. That should be no problem, I heard Norway has huge Oil Fund Reserve stashed away somewhere!
