Flt/Lt David Lord - 271 Sqn 18 Sept 44
Can't seem to pull down the Sqn ORB for 18 Sept 1944 from the NA Kew, to find out what time David Lord's aircraft took off and estimated arrival time over the DZ.
If any one can help that would be great. With Thanks in advance Yours Sincerely Andy BIrd |
Re: Flt/Lt David Lord - 271 Sqn 18 Sept 44
The book called The Royal Air Force at Arnhem - Glider and re-supply missions in September 1944 published by The Society of Friends of the Airborne Museum Oosterbeek in 2005, gives the time of take off for F/Lt DSA Lord on 18th Sept as 11.17 hrs and return as 17.16 hrs in KG374.
This book is without doubt a very well researched and handy reference book by Luuk Buist, Philip Reinders and Geert Maassen (Its a 200 page hardback) ISBN-10:9080457132. Obviously the above is the flight he made the day before his death and posthumous award of the VC |

Re: Flt/Lt David Lord - 271 Sqn 18 Sept 44
This is the book to order which is in English; very thoughtful especially as it was written and published in Holland and not available in the UK as far as I can tell (except online) and most of these are asking £35 to £39 for a copy! I think I paid €20 in 2011
