Can anyone tell me the identity of the 414 NFS crew that shot down the He 177 flown by Oblt Georg Dietrich of 4/KG 40 off Corsica at 1750 hrs on 23 Jan 44?

Ta-and the same to you. Up to April 1944 on Vol 2 of Sea Eagles and this is something for the footnotes (proving how disastrous the He 177 was over Anzio!)

Hi Chris,

You probably already know, but just in case.

Also on the 23/1/44 1Lt. James R. Anderson with F/O John A. Armstrong together with Jack Gamble with Joe Owen jointly claimed a Do217.

It looks as though only Anderson and Armstrong were granted the claim.

On the 6th August 44 Capt John F. Patterson with Lt. Roy E. Patton claimed a Ju88. While on the 23rd December 44 1Lt Albert L. Jones with F/O. John Rudovsky claimed a Ju87 of NSG 9(?) the last Beaufighter claim from this squadron.

Further Squadron claims were 4th Feb, 7th ,8th, 9th and 10th April 45.

Thanks Alex but I am only interested in this one combat as it illustrates how disastrous the missions flown by II/KG 40 were over the beachhead

The Ju 88 was from KG 77 and the Ju 87 was - as you suggest - from NSG 9.
