Typhoon Ia or Ib
 

Does anyone have a listing of the Typhoons in the batch R7576 to R7923 and which were built as Ia and which as Ib?

I have the Putnam "Hawker Aircraft since 1920" and Air Britain "RAF Aircraft P1000-R9999" but neither are of any help

They were listed in the Air-Britain Typhoon File which I compiled more than 30 years ago. I'm afraid some of the histories contain errors - we've learned a lot about the vagaries of official records, particularly the Forms 78 and ORBs, since then. The listings of IAs were taken from the Forms 78 as these are the only existing source known to me which notes them.

I will look out for a copy, sorry there are no royalties from the second hand trade

R7644 1A at 11.40 on 18/08/1942 (56 Sqn) 98.30 hours
R7695 1B at 09.55 on 24/10/1942 (266 Sqn) 159.25 hours
R7854 1B on 17/01/1943 (56 Sqn) 141.40 hours
R8897 1B at 12.20 on 28/08/1944 (83 GSU) 104.30 hours

In 'The Hawker Typhoon and Tempest' by Mason it gives whether a Ia or Ib from R7576 to R7714.

From R7576 to R7714 all Typhoon Ia except for 7677 to 7680, 7682, 7683, 7694 to 7698, 7708, 7711 to 7714

After R7714, all are Typhoon Ib except for 7855, 7869

Serial number blocks:

R7738 - 7775
R7792 - 7829
R7845 - 7890
R7913 - 7923

I'll add my thanks to Kutscha and add the following from Chris Thomas' Hawker Typhoon (Warpaint Series No. 5):

The following Hawker built Typhoons are listed as Mark Ia:

R8198, R8199, R8200, R8220 and R8221.
