German airport identification

2 Attachment(s)
During the flight from italy to Belgium in september 1940 CR.42 of 18° Gruppo CT stopped at Neubiberg, Darmstadt and Frankfurt Main.
Can anyone confirm that the two attached picture had been taken at Neubiberg?
Please note the name BOELKE written on top of a building, this could help for the identification.

Thank you in advance

BOELKE was KG 27, but KG 27 had nothing to do with any of the airfields you listed, either before the war or in September 1940. The Geschwader was fully deployed in France on that date for the Battle of Britain.

From a quick Google search, there was a Boelcke-Kaserne (barracks) at Delmenhorst-Adelheide but that seems to be way off-course.

However, ULTRA (CX/JQ/333, Teleprint 3) picked up the intended route for the Italian fighters to Belgium in a message of 24 September 1940 as follows:
Route: Brenner – Munich – Frankfurt (Main) – Operational Aerodromes ... 18 JG 56 (CR 42), after intermediate landing, without refuelling to Melsbrouck, then to Ursel. Arrival on 26/9/40.

Thank you for the answers, even though they didn't solve my doubts....

Anyone has got books like 'Fliegerhorste und Einsatzhäfen der Luftwaffe'
Motorbuch Verlag Stuttgart, 1993?

Hi there, and sorry for the late reply. I would say both photos were made at Frankfurt. Please compare: http://www.aufbau-ffm.de/serie/Teil17-20/teil18.html

Thank you for the suggestions and the nice pictures taken at Darmstadt.

Does anyone has got a pair of pictures taken at Neubiberg for comparaison purposes?

Gianandrea
