4 Nachtjagd claims in daylight, 17 August 1943
 

Dear all,

I have been working on the narrative and claims listings for the 17 August 1943 Schweinfurt & Regensburg raid for the 2nd edition of the Nachtjagd War Diaries, and have four documented Nachtjagd claims for B-17s shot down that I have not yet been able to match to actual Fortress losses, who can help me filling in these gaps:

Lt. Ernst Terborg: 2 3./NJG101 B-17 Rosenheim-Wörgl (EE 4-GE 1): 5.500 m. 13.46
Uffz. Werner Dotzauer: 1 3./NJG101 Fortress II Rosenheim-Brixen (EE 4-GE 2): 5.500 m. 13.47
Uffz. Werner Dotzauer: 2 3./NJG101 Fortress II Rosenheim-Brixen (EE 4-GE 2): 5.500 m. 13.49 VNE: ASM. Note: probably interpreted by Abschusskommission as same claim as Uffz. Dotzauer’s Abschuss at 13.47 hrs
Oblt. Heribert Kleinschmidt: 1 6./NJG1 B-17 Esch, 5 km. ENE Euskirchen: 2.500 m, i.Zus.W. 15.20 Note on Abschussmeldung: ’Anerkennung zählt für 4.13.6.11’ –Flak claim??
Uffz. Willi Nicke: 3 8./NJG101 B-17 Maintal 15.50 (?)

Good evening Theo,

there are no matching losses for the claims in the area Rosenheim - Brixen - Wörgl during the Regensburg mission.

42-30140 of 381.BG, 532.BS (Painter) was damaged by Flak and finally shot down by fighters near Esch during the Schweinfurt mission (MACR 379).

But again, there is no matching loss in the closer area of Maintal.
