Lt Wolfgang Wenning

Hi,
can anyone help with any service history regarding Lt Wenning before serving with Stab II./KG51?

I know he and Fw Gustav Delp were killed on intruder operations over the UK 27/4/44.

Regards,
Mike

All we have on this guy (so far) is:

WENNING, Wolfgang. (DOB: 27.11.22). (n.d.) with 16./KG 2. 12.04.44 Lt., 6./KG 51. 27.04.44 Lt., 6./KG 51 KIA - Me 410 collided with an Airspeed Oxford vic Lawford/UK. Credited with 7 aerial victories.

We hope that this helps.

Re: Lt Wolfgang Wenning

My guess is that he had very little service experience apart from what Doug quotes being 21 at the time of his death

thanks guys,

if you could help with any info on 16./KG2 during this period. Did the unit operate with Me410's or JU88's, etc.

Mike.

Re: Lt Wolfgang Wenning

Perhaps these incidents are a different Wolfgang Wenning (?), but here's what we have:

Ju 88C-2 WNr.0857 of 1./NJG 2, Ltn. Wolfgang Wenning, Bf Ltn. Bernhard Doll & Bs Ogefr. Georg Schwaab. Notlandung at sea 10.July 1942 due to engine trouble. Crew rescued 30km südlich Küste Kreta.

Ju 88C-6 WNr.360202 of 1./NJG 2, coded R4+JH, Ltn. Wolfgang Wenning, Bf Ltn. Bernhard Doll & Bs Ogefr. Georg Schwaab. Engine damage 20.July 1942 due to Luftkampf with Beaufighter südwestlich Kreta. (mission from Malemes to Tobruk)

Me 410A-1 WNr.420445 of Stab/KG 51, coded 9K+ZP, Ltn. Wolfgang Wenning and Bf Fw. Gustav Delp KIA 27.April 1944 due to collision with an Oxford of No. 18 (P) AFU, Manor Farm, Frankton, near Rugby.

Re: Lt Wolfgang Wenning

Possible especially with the night ops link but he would have been 19 at the time he was operational with NJG 2 which to me seems very young for a qualified pilot?

Re: Lt Wolfgang Wenning

Lt Wolfgang Wenning of 1./NJG 2 is a different person, born 1920 and MIA since 1942-07-20.

As I thought-didn't have the chance to check it myself as I am at work but thanks again Matti

Re: Lt Wolfgang Wenning

That clarifies things. At this point we now have for this name:

WENNING, Wolfgang. (DOB: 1920). 10.07.42 Lt., 1./NJG 2 unhurt - Ju 88C-2 ditched at sea due to engine trouble - rescued 30 km S of Crete. 20.07.42 Lt., 1./NJG 2 MIA - Ju 88 C-6 (R4+SH(JH?)) combat with a Beaufighter over sea while escorting a Ju 52 from Malemes/Crete to Tobruk.
WENNING, Wolfgang. (DOB: 27.11.22). (n.d.) with 16./KG 2. 12.04.44 Lt., 6./KG 51. 27.04.44 Lt., 6./KG 51 KIA - Me 410 A-1 (9K+ZP) collided with an Airspeed Oxford of no. 18 (P) AFU vic Lawford/UK. Credited with 7 aerial victories.
WENNING, Wolfgang. 21.09.41 Lt., IV./KG 54 WIA - Ju 88 A-5 in a belly-landing during an exercise flight due to a servicing error.

My question is: is the KG 54 guy the same as the KG 51 guy? I expect so.

Any comments?
