Need help with unit information...
The father-in-law of a friend of mine was in the Luftwaffe during WW2. He has provided me with the following information:
"My late father in law was in the Luftwaffe in the war. I have come across his old dog tag and a little notebook, and I'm trying to find out who he was attached to. The dog tag has the number 3501, then 3 Flg. Rgt 32 on it. The notebook has a series of French locations, dated from July 1943: Angers, Istres, Trier, Paris Orly, Douai, Auxerre and Toulouse. Am I correct in thinking it would be Fliegerausbildungs Regiment 32? And would that tally with the locations mentioned? Any help would be appreciated. |
Re: Need help with unit information...
Hi John,
you assumed correctly. Albeit in the time frame you mentioned the unit was officially called "Flieger-Regiment 32" (http://ww2.dk/ground/infanterie/flausb32.html). 3./Flg.Rgt.32 (in arab numerals) should mean "3. Kompanie", so first battalion. Those units basically provided infantry training for Luftwaffe soldiers while also guarding important installations. Cheers, Christian |
