F/O J Smalley

Good evening.

My elderly mother is moving into a home and found an RAF officer's trunk in the loft and has advertised it on e-bay.

I have tried to research it for her but have been going around in circles for a while.

I can only find one F/O J Smalley in the RAF who appears to be a DFC and Stalag Luft inmate.

However, the service number on the (seemingly WWII) trunk is 170105 which is an 1919 RFC number.

Help would be appreciated.

Best way is to search the Online London Gazette for

170105 Smalley

Gives a number of hits including his commission

http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issu...pplements/1000

The first number is his OR number and the one in brackets his new number on commission.
