Loss of Mjr. Stehom Stone - RAF in February 1945
The report shows a british fighter aircraft hit by flak over southern Austria. The plane crashes and the pilot saves himself by bailing out - survived. - February 1945.
Who knows more about this case? Could it be a fighter of 15. USAAF? Any information is highly appreciated! Cheers, Kurtl |

Kurtl,
"Stehom" Stone most likely to be identified as Major Stephen A. Stone (O-427290), shot down 13 Feb 1945 in P-38 44-25021 of 82nd FG (MACR 12125). KU Report gives Schober Pass as place of capture. Major Stone was sent to Stalag Luft West. Gruss, Leendert |

Kurtl,
Just to add that the P-38L was on a photo recce escort mission from Vincenzo # 11 to Prague. An oxygen leak is reported in the MACR, so wasn't shot down as presumed by me earlier. Plane and pilot were last seen about 20 miles NE of Linz at 12.20 hrs. Regards, leendert |

The MACR 12125 also mention troubles with the right engine (fire) and an emergency landing afterwards.
Since Mjr. Stone was the leader of an escort squadron for a photo-recce aircraft I wonder what kind of mission did they fly? Leendert, thank you for your help! I appreciate it. Cheers, Kurt |
