Hi,

only 2 Ju.52's claimed on 7th June, one by Lt.Col. Glenn Duncan of the 353rd Fighter Group shot down near Ribecourt, which is quite a distance from Dreux and 1 by F/Lt.W.Buroughs and F/O. R.A.Bromley of 414 Sqd. RCAF near Mortagne at 06.00,

The 414 sq. claim would seem likely ! any comments ?

Hello Bruce,

As far as I know, there were more Ju 52 claims in the night of 6/7 June 1944, at least four by No. 418 (RCAF) Squadron Mosquitoes as follows: 1 by F/Lt D.A. MacFadyen, DFC and F/O J.D. Wright: N of Coulommiers A/F at 2345 hours and no fewer than 3 (!) by F/Lt S.H. Cotterill and Sgt E.H. McKenna at Chateaudun A/F and Orleans A/F (at 0012, 0015 and 0032 hours respectively). None of them matches perfectly location-wise, but possibly some of claims at Chateaudun and Orleans could be this particular 3./TG 4 aircraft. Besides that Cotterill and McKenna also claimed a Ju 188 destroyed over Orleans during this sortie.

Hope this might help a little,

Ota

Hi Ota,

I think that there were also several aircraft claimed by 29 Sqd Mosquitoes over Dreux airfield on the night of 7th/8th June also, i of which was a Ju.52.
The key would seem to be do we have a time for the loss of this particular Ju.52 ?

The 418 claims you mention are quite a good distance from Dreux so I would tend to discount them as likely

John Foreman gives first hand accounts of all these night actions in "1944 - Over The Beaches" and "Fighter Command War Diaries Vol 4"

Cheers

Who were in the crew of the Ju188 shot down over Orleans mentioned in the text above?

Thanks

Rick
