Wekusta 1 loss on 10 November 1942

Hello,

I am searching the names of the crew of the Ju 88 D-1 WNr 1469 of Wekusta 1 shot down over the North Sea by a Beaufighter of 125 Sqn. The pilot or aircraft commander was Hptm Kurt Jonas.

Thanks in advance

Laurent:

If interested, contact me as I have Jonas's photo album from his time with 1/120. His crew was Assessor Walter Möller, Oblt Oskar Janetzki & Ofw Horst Wachsmuth. Shot down by Flt Lt J R A Bailey/Fg Off K Dear of 125 Sqn 18 miles east of Montrose 0836 hrs. Bailey was wounded in the combat & Beaufughter suffered engine damage

NVM says Möller not Müller & all reported missing no POWs

Thanks a lot

Chris I have two different sources (but maybe using the same primary source) saying that the interception was 118 miles east of Montrose, not 18. 118 miles is maybe a little too precise for such a long distance over sea, but 18 means that the Ju 88 on a weather reco really got close to the Scottish coast.

I have this as well. Combat report is smudged by the distance & the fact that the Beau had to be escorted back might support 118 miles

Hello,

Jim Bailey's own words (Pilot of No.125 Sqn Beaufighter VIf X8255):

"Our combat had taken place almost half-way between Scotland and Norway. We had thus much flying before reaching land; but the good engine was holding."

Thanks Col, this is validating the 118 miles rather than the 18.

Bets regards
