I./JG 26 Mission, 25 Aug 44

On 25 Aug 44, I./JG26 put up twelve Fw190A-8s to provide top cover for 30-plus Bf109Gs from III./JG76 on a freijagd to the Normandy area. The Fw190s were led by Lt. Georg Kiefner who was flying Fw190A-8, werknummer 173805, Weiss 5. The only other I./JG26 pilot I've been able to identify from that mission was Uffz. Ludwig Sattler who was flying Fw190A-8, werknummer 173815, Weiss 7. I have worked with Don Caldwell, well-known expert on JG26, and he unfortunately could not provide me any additional information on the remaining unidentified ten pilots or planes. Anyone out there have any clues where I may be able to find this information (if it still exists)? Thanks in advance.Cheers, Gary Koch

Re: I./JG 26 Mission, 25 Aug 44

I am afraid no such documents are known to survive, I have similar problem with II/JG26 at the same period. I did a list of all known pilots on the strenght of the unit and I think I have listed most of them. Unfortunatelly, only a few survived the war, so chances to verify sorties with log books seem pretty slim.
